Brother Oliver Storms Back With New Single; Debuting on Elmore Magazine
Brother Oliver is back. South Carolina’s innovative psychedelic folk / rock outfit returns into the Southeast spotlight with their substantive Command Shift EP — out this Friday, December 4th via Forthright Records.
Get a sneak peak today with lead single “Who Shot The Music?” — now premiering over at Elmore Magazine. A power ballad about the struggles of being an entertainer, specifically from the perspective of a career musician, it’s particularly relevant in a year when live music nearly came to a halt.
Riddled with their classic question-asking approach to lyricism, the outfit’s Command Shift EP touches on issues both past and present, like the death of entertainment, social media discourse, and simply finding a way to get through it all.
The instrumentation has flashes of classic Brother Oliver — electric mandolin power solos and catchy choruses — but also doesn’t lack musical depth and grit. What’s new is the synth work found on every track. The electronic elements play into the overall aesthetic of the release, tied together by its somewhat-cryptic artwork that is simply an image of a keyboard.
