What do you like about rock music? Slashing-but-melodic guitars? A propulsive rhythm section? Indelible melodies that are catchy but not too sweet? South Carolina quartet Quality Time might just be your cup of tea.
On the Greenville-based outfit's latest album, Staring at the Ceiling From a Cold Bed, singer/guitarist Pearson Parham leads the band through ten tracks of effortlessly melodic, emotionally resonant rock — backed by Kyle Grant’s skyscraping guitars and locked-in rhythms featuring drummer Jonathan Vandersloot and bassist John Balentine.
Their first new song of 2022, "Recliner" finds Quality Time atop a velvet throne of indie rock sitting somewhere between Turnover, Tigers Jaw, and Origami Angel. It's complemented with a music video directed by The Animist, who the group previously worked with on their video for "Let Go" — which caught the attention of Flood Magazine and won an Upstate Music Award last year.
